Creating a Counter Offer Without Using a Counter Offer Form

This article walks you through creating a counter offer in Click without using a specific counter offer form — instead, by uploading a document directly and making your edits.

Written by Pat Toohey

Sometimes the cleanest counter is the other side’s own document, marked up. This is how to do that in Click by uploading the PDF and editing it directly.

Click does have a Counteroffer form — it is in the document list under Other Documents if you would rather fill one in. This article covers the other route.

Step 1: Start an envelope on the transaction

Open your transaction, go to its Envelopes tab, click New Envelope and choose Other Documents. On the People step answer Who are you working with? and confirm your client.

Step 2: Title the envelope and choose Upload

Move to Edit. Give the envelope a title — “Counter Offer” does the job — then answer Do you want to Create or Upload documents? with Upload.

The Document Selection section with a title entered and Upload chosen out of Create, Upload and Create and Upload

Upload is an answer here. The place to drop the file comes next.

Step 3: Add your document

Open the Additional Clauses & File Uploads section. Drag your file onto the drop zone, or click to browse. You can also use From Library to reuse a document you have already saved.

The Upload your files section showing an uploaded PDF, a From Library button, the drag and drop zone and the toggle for adding text and checkbox fields

Click accepts .pdf, .doc and .docx files up to 50MB.

Step 4: Let Click tag what it can

Click Review. Click reads your uploaded documents with AI and places signature, initial and date tags automatically, then tells you what it found, document by document.

  • A count per file — We pre-placed 12 tags for you, or We couldn’t pre-place tags when it found nothing.

  • Zero is a normal answer. A scan, an already-signed document or one with nothing recognisable comes back at zero, and you tag it by hand.

  • A document marked (not checked — please tag manually) was never examined at all — the detection ran out of time on the earlier files in the envelope.

  • A note like (missed scanned page: 3) means detection skipped those pages, so check them yourself.

Scroll the document and check the tags before you send. Click says so itself: AI can make mistakes, and scanned pages are excluded deliberately for speed.

A separate option: fields for you to fill in

Back on the upload section, under the file list, there are two toggles. Add signature, initial and date fields for signers is the automatic tagging above; it is on unless you turn it off. The second, Add text and checkbox fields for me to fill out, is not the same thing:

  • It is off unless you turn it on.

  • It adds text boxes and checkboxes for you, the sender, to complete — not signing tags for your client.

  • It is only available on real-estate accounts.

Step 5: Make your changes on the document

The Review screen is where you counter, using the tools above the document:

Remember to place an initial box for your client beside each change you make, so the counter is initialled where it matters.

Step 6: Sign and send

Once your edits and the signing tags are in place, move to Sign & send and send it off.
